New to NCCU - Tap-to-Pay
NCCU now offers our Debit Card Mastercard with Tap-to-Pay!
How does Tap-to-Pay work?
Tap-to-Pay is a form of contactless payment that is a secure and fast way to make purchases with your Debit Card through a chip in your card that transmits via radio frequency identification (RFID) and near-field communication (NFC) technologies.

Merchants that accept Tap-to-Pay will have point-of-sale terminals with a special symbol identifying the technology. When the point-of-sale system prompts you as the customer to pay, you would bring the card close to the contactless payment symbol on the terminal. From there, encrypted information is transmitted electronically using the chip on the card to the Credit Union.
As the customer, depending on the Point-of-sale system, you will still be prompted to use your PIN to verify your purchases.
What are the Benefits of Tap-to-pay?
Tap-to-Pay is utilized worldwide at retailers with updated Point-of-Sale terminals. It makes the transactions convenient and secure with enhanced security.
Fraudsters have become very competent in stealing and cloning card information from magnetic stripes on the back of payment cards. Tap-to-Pay helps to minimize the risk of Debit Card fraud at physical POS terminals because contactless cards transmit data only over a very short range and each transaction uses dynamic, one-time cryptographic data rather than stored information on a magnetic stripe.
What happens if the point-of-sale terminal is not contactless-enabled?
You are still able to use your Tap-to-Pay Debit Card Mastercard for chip and swipe transactions. Simply insert or swipe your card and enter your PIN as you have been able to in the past.
